During Jesus’ ministry, His entry into the city of Jerusalem was a major event. It fulfilled Old-
Testament prophecy and gave the people hope. However, there was widespread misunderstanding
as to why He was there; contrary to coming as a military conqueror or a political ruler, He came to
bring peace and salvation to those who believed in Him. This event preceded the people turning
against Jesus and His eventual death; however, Jesus’ death gave us victory over death and access to
eternal life. Faith in Christ and in His freewill sacrifice of Himself is enough to provide forgiveness in
God’s eyes for all our sins—even the ones we have not committed yet. This means that as believers,
nothing we can say or do could ever erase God’s unconditional love and acceptance, or spoil the
loving relationship we now have with Him. This is cause for great rejoicing.
