Somewhere along our Christian walk we may have heard someone say we must continually die to sin, and tried to apply it to ourselves. This may sound fine until we examine its true significance in light of the finished works of Jesus Christ. Jesus has already died for our sins, once for all time. Accepting Him by getting born again means dying to sin, which is a one-time experience for us as well. Therefore, we no longer have to keep trying to do what has already been done. Victory over sinning does not come from working on our behavior, but from the knowledge that Jesus has set us free from our old, sinful nature. Believing this will change our actions.
