One of the biggest challenges for us as believers is avoiding getting caught up in religion with all its rules. Trying to live by the law keeps us off balance, but walking according to the rhythm of grace gives us rest and keeps us from becoming exhausted. When we are in relationship with Jesus, we must resist the temptation to fall back into performance and self-effort. God has told us we are righteous and holy; staying in rhythm with grace when we make a mistake rescues us from pausing and trying to figure out what to do to deal with our behavior. Grace always reminds us of our righteousness because it is in sync with the finished works of Jesus; the enemy wants to break that rhythm so that we will go back to living under the law. We must never underestimate God’s mercy and kindness. Unlike what religion tells us, God uses His goodness to persuade us to want to move from living under the law to living under grace.
