Life can be unpredictable. Being unprepared to deal with unexpected situations, or surprised by others’ expectations, causes friction in any relationship. Family drama is exhausting and frustrating, and can break out when one person is jealous of another. Families are one of the enemy’s favorite targets; he uses the people closest to us to create envy, dissention, and bitterness. Jealousy is destructive and causes deep distress and emotional pain; we see this in the Old Testament when Joseph’s brothers hated and mistreated him, and in Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son. Entertaining endless drama can make our lives seem like a soap opera; we stop this cycle by trusting that God has given us just what we need to complete the task He assigned to us. Understanding that we can have peace knowing the purpose for our lives allows us to live free from drama-induced jealousy.
