For marriages to be successful, both spouses must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The world has a backward idea of what marriage is supposed to be like, which is why so many marriages are unhappy and so many end in divorce. However, God’s idea of marriage is not based on male domination, but on equality between the husband and the wife and the same kind of love and nourishment God has for Jesus and Jesus has for the church. The kind of love God expects a husband to have for his wife takes courage; likewise, a wife who is deeply loved is strengthened. God is the one who created the institution of marriage; therefore, it will not succeed without Him as the third party in the relationship. It is God’s will to bless marriages; mutual submission to the Word by the husband and the wife allows Him to carry out those blessings. Learning and practicing true biblical submission will cause our marriages to thrive and flourish.
