When life’s challenges threaten to overwhelm us, praying in the Holy Spirit provides us with multiple benefits. This kind of prayer will deepen our relationship with God, give us peace, reveal previously-unknown mysteries, release wisdom and focus for our lives, and edify us. God knows exactly what we need, but sometimes we do not have the right words to express ourselves to Him; tongues allows His Spirit to intercede for us with the perfect prayer. The ability to speak in tongues is a gift given because of God’s favor toward us; however, many people resist it because they either fear it or do not trust it because of religious doctrines. Trusting in God enough to let His Spirit lead us like this strengthens us spiritually, emotionally, and even physically. To enjoy the advantages tongues brings we must make this kind of prayer a part of our Christian lifestyle. When we spend time with God this way, we begin to see Him do amazing things in our lives.
