Correctly dividing God’s Word of faith is essential for us if we are to avoid falling into the trap of self-effort in our belief. Having faith in God could lead us to think that we must do something to develop our own faith; this is different than having the faith of God, which He offers to us as a gift with no need to earn it. We receive this gift when we receive Jesus, who is a reflection of God’s faith in human form. We do not have to work to be forgiven, saved, righteous, or justified; the faith of Jesus Christ, who lives in us, reveals to us that we already are those things. Christ’s faith is perfect and flawless, and relieves us of the burden of relying on our own imperfect faith. This is a simple concept, but religion and our English translation of the Bible’s original Greek language complicates it. Depending on what God believes about us, instead of on what we believe, allows Him to give us the abundant life He wants us to enjoy.
