As born-again believers, long, healthy lives are a covenant right we received when we became God’s children. However, this does not just happen by accident; we must use our faith to take possession of it. This involves not only opening our mouths to declare life, but also choosing our words wisely to avoid speaking death. We reap what we sow; to enjoy long life, we first plant the seeds by verbal declaration. We will have what we say, which is why we must be aware that speaking words of death will lead to that very destination. As free moral agents, it is our choice what we harvest. Complete trust in God’s Word to us concerning long life will empower us to take possession of long life for ourselves.
